So how did I become a
Brian Anderson fan? Well, I remember getting my first Brian Anderson baseball
card. It was 1995, and I was a freshman in college. I got the
pack at the dollar store, and it was Brian on the Angels. I saw the
Angels play my local A's quite a bit, so I put that card aside. Then
Brian was traded to the Indians, another of my favorite teams, and that was
very exciting. I remember watching him pitch in the playoffs for Cleveland
in 1997. During the spring of 1997, I had traveled to Phoenix for spring
training for the first time, and became a Diamondbacks fan, when I saw their
minor league team play, and their stadium being built. I signed up
for the DBacks magazine (which was free at the time) to keep up with my newly
adopted team. After the expansion draft, I read about their first draft
pick, former Cleveland Indian, Brian Anderson. How cool I thought!
I was able to attend my first Arizona Diamondbacks game on June 4,
1998. Earlier that day, I had received my current DBacks magazine,
and who was on the cover? Brian Anderson! It was a great story, about a very
entertaining player, and I knew I had to meet him that day, and I did.
Make sure to read more about it on the "Stories about meeting Brian"
page. I've followed him to the Indians and now the Royals as a fan!
